A Home for Blind Willie
For years, Findley Plaza was home to a beautiful mosaic piece featuring the artist Blind Willie McTell. Originally created by artist Jason Evers Johnson, the piece was in danger of being lost due to upcoming plaza renovations. Fortunately, Don Bender, the L5P Alliance, and the L5P Business Association stepped up to make sure this piece of art was saved and placed carefully into storage.
On August 29, public art supporters gathered at the Little 5 Points Center for Arts and Community to see the unveiling of the mosaic that had been carefully restored by Jason using an ancient Japanese method called "kintsugi." Instead of hiding the flaws that were created when the mosaic had to be cut and moved, this approach highlights the flaws using gold to show how the art has changed over time.
