A Safer McLendon Avenue
The Candler Park Neighborhood Organization (CPNO) has been working with the City of Atlanta to make McLendon Avenue a safer and slower street for all users. McLendon and Moreland is a major intersection in Little 5 Points, and the corridor is heavily traveled by pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles both commuting to school and work or for shopping and recreational travel throughout the week.
CPNO’s Infrastructure Committee, which includes L5P Alliance board members Walter Brown and Christina Hodgen, recently met with Department of City Planning Commissioner Tim Keane and Atlanta City Studio staff to discuss ways to make the McLendon Corridor safer. As a result of this meeting and continued advocacy, City Council voted on December 6 to change McLendon Avenue from 30 mph to 25mph.
The Infrastructure Committee will hold community engagement meetings in 2022 to discuss further potential ideas around a safer corridor that directly connects with concepts developed in the Little 5 Mobility Study. The Alliance will share more information when these meetings are in place.
