Alliance Response to New Development Potential in L5P
The L5P Alliance was created to bring together the many voices of those who love L5P – the small business owners of the L5P Business Association, the commercial property owners of the L5P Community Improvement District, and the residents of both Inman Park and Candler Park. Together, our goal is to make L5P a more safe, welcoming, and vibrant community that retains its unique spirit.
There have been many conversations about a project at the corner of Euclid and Moreland Avenue that includes updating historic buildings; preserving multiple legacy businesses; adding in commercial, retail, and restaurant space as well as multifamily housing; and potentially demolishing a building that houses the Star Bar.
As a member organization and a nonprofit, we will not be advocating specifically on this project yet encourage those who have a voice through their respective organizations and the NPU system to do so. We encourage open and transparent communication between all parties and believe that meaningful dialogue helps to create spaces that work for all involved.
Little 5 Points has a history of being a welcoming place to people from all backgrounds as well as a space of activism, community, and free expression. Much of that is because we are fortunate to have longtime neighborhood leaders, business owners, and property owners who have worked together over the years to create this space – many of whom are still involved. Change is inevitable, but by prioritizing a collaborative approach to creating community, we can work together to make sure L5P will continue to be that unique, independent, welcoming space for all Atlantans.
