Moreland Construction
GDOT has begun work on Moreland Avenue to improve sidewalks and pedestrian safety between Dekalb Avenue and Mansfield Avenue. Currently portions of sidewalk and driveway are being demolished on the southwest side of Moreland. GDOT has provided a high level overview of the work to be completed over the next 10 months, and the L5P CID is working to get a more detailed schedule.
The main improvements to Moreland Avenue as a result of this project will be new sidewalks, a much needed mid-block crossing between Mansfield and Euclid, and improved bike lanes and crossings. During the construction, several trees will be removed to fix sidewalks that have buckled under roots or that block ADA access. See the construction plans here.
The L5P CID has been consulting with our friends at Trees Atlanta and working directly with Lord Aeck Sargent (LAS) to create a tree replacement plan for the corridor. LAS is already working with the CID on the L5P Smart Mobility Project for Euclid Avenue (funded by an ARC grant), so getting their expertise on the relationship between trees and mobility will ensure L5P is considering these issues for the long-term.
